NHS Highland is offering an exciting opportunity to take up a locum consultant appointment in its Public Health Team to fill a gap between retirement and substantive recruitment. This post has a remit across the team, including a focus on tackling health inequalities. There is a specific focus on screening and on marginalised groups together with public health on-call. You will work in a friendly Public Health department and will have close links to department colleagues working in Health Improvement, Health Services and Health Protection.

The successful candidate will bring the skills and drive to build on a successful track record of health intelligence, disease prevention and service organisation. You will take the lead on screening for breast and cervical cancer and lead the public health input for prison health and refugees and asylum seekers.

NHS Highland serves a total population of around 325,000. You can be based in Inverness, but some remote working will also be possible.

Dr Tim Allison, Director of Public Health, would welcome an informal discussion with all interested individuals on 07929 840900 or at tim.allison@nhs.scot.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
